More Macomb County police agencies roll out interactive crime maps
January 16, 2018
More law enforcement agencies are working to keep civilians better informed of crime in their community with a new online crime incident map called CrimeMapping.
A crime mapping app from the Shelby Township Police Department of Michigan went live this week. Roseville police have using a similar program for about the past two years.
Police leaders say the interactive, user-friendly map shares certain police activity including traffic alerts, property crimes, assaults and drug complaints.
“This is the 21st century of policing,” Shelby Township Deputy Police Chief Mark Coil said. “People want to be informed in real time of what is going on in their neighborhoods. It’s an easy-to-use program that provides transparency to our community.”
